Common questions

Quick answers about getting help, giving, and getting involved in Gadsden.

How do I get a bed for the night?

Our shelter doors open at 5 p.m. each evening. You can walk in or call the front desk at (256) 546-4673 ahead of time. Beds are first-come, and our team will help with intake, a hot meal, and a safe place to sleep that night.

What should I bring?

Just yourself. A photo ID and any medications are helpful if you have them, but they are not required to get a bed. Bring essential personal belongings; we can help with clothing, hygiene items, and other basics once you are settled.

Do you help with finding work?

Yes. Our employment caseworkers help with IDs and documents, resumes, and connecting you with background-friendly local employers. Browse the open roles above and tap View details to apply right from this page.

How can I help or donate?

You can give securely online using the buttons in the giving section above, drop off items from our urgent supply list, or sign up to volunteer. Every gift stays local and directly supports neighbors here in Etowah County.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. The Salvation Army is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for your records.

Who can come to the Salvation Army for help?

Anyone in need is welcome. We serve our Gadsden neighbors with care and dignity, without discrimination - whether you need shelter for a night, help with utilities, food, or a path back to stable housing and work.
